Siobhan was a senior civil servant until she resigned this year to run as an independent in the Mayor of London election. During her time in the Civil Service, she worked on a range of policy areas before moving to the Cabinet Office where she led cross-Whitehall reform. She moved to the Department of Health in 2009 to head corporate governance. In the London Election Siobhan secured around 250,000 votes and came within a percentage point of both the Liberal Democrat and Green Party candidates, which was a remarkable achievement for an independent with no party machine. Siobhan devoted a lot of her time in the Civil Service to improving diversity and in 2010 she founded Tabelle, a network for women working in and with the public sector. She regularly speaks on the need to have more people from a range of backgrounds in UK public life. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
