Traditional inpatient psychiatric care for individuals with co-occurring intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD) and mental health challenges often ends with short-term crisis stabilization—leaving long-term support overlooked. This session presents a paradigm shift: designing sustainable systems that promote autonomy, self-efficacy, and lasting well-being. Highlighting an award-winning psychosocial rehabilitation (PSR) model in a high-acuity hospital, participants will gain a practical framework for change, including key principles of autonomy-focused care, evidence-based PSR strategies, and systemic requirements for sustaining innovation in traditional settings.
