“I remember the day I felt safe enough to share how I was feeling with my supervisor, and I told him ‘I feel overwhelmed’. And the response he gave couldn’t have been better. He said: ‘So do I. But we’ll get through this together.’" Emma Taylor is a PhD student in veterinary epidemiology at the University of Surrey. In this video, she shares how she struggled to engage with support from her university during the stress and anxiety of the COVID-19 pandemic, but then how she navigated her way out of the COVID-19 fog and managed to continue her research. Her top tips for PhD supervisors are: Be patient. Keep reaching out. Be ready to receive that difficult conversation, to actively listen, and respond with kindness.
