This video introduces the concept of black-body readiation. An ideal black body absorbs all incident radiation and has a temperature-dependent radiation emission. The power on the surface for black-body radiation at a given temperature is given by the Planck distribution. The video considers the formulas for the spectral irradiance as a function of frequency and wavelength and converts the two. This video is a prerequesite for understanding the Shockley-Queisser efficiency limit of solar cells. Therefore, the calculation results are presented for the radiation of the sun and the earth.
