They provide both warnings and comfort. With particular reference to Matthew 24 and 25, David Pawson draws on Jesus’ teaching to his disciples to argue that Christians need to prepare for the Second Coming both spiritually and physically so that they are equipped to face deception both inside and outside the church from false prophets, false Christs and other deceivers, as well as persecution. The Christian is to “live as if Christ is coming back tomorrow, but not to expect him tomorrow” because there are still signs (or signals to believers) that must appear and prophecies that have to be fulfilled before the Lord’s return. Christians look “to a new birth of a new world and therefore we are not dismayed or depressed by all the troubles in the world”. Regarding the four signs of the Second Coming, David adds that “one is already here, the other three are not. That is the reason I answer the question ‘Are we in the end times?’ by arguing that we should prepare but not panic.
