This is an excerpt from "The Acceptance That Tames Beings with the Sky-Colored Method of Perfect Conduct" or Samyagācāravṛttagaganavarṇavinayakṣānti. In Tibetan this Great Vehicle sutra is found in the Degé Kangyur, and a modern English translation has been published online by "84000: Translating the Words of the Buddha." 🧠 Central Themes 🪶 1. Bodhisattva Conduct and Emptiness The sūtra places acceptance (patience, forbearance) at the core of bodhisattva practice. It teaches that realizing the emptiness (lack of inherent existence) of all phenomena enables a Bodhisattva’s conduct to be like the sky — vast, unobstructed, impartial, free of grasping. 🌌 2. “Sky-Colored Method” The metaphor of sky reflects the infinite, boundless nature of reality and of compassionate conduct. This method emphasizes non-dual awareness and compassionate activity without obstruction, mirroring how space embraces all phenomena without discrimination. 🧘 3. Teaching in Impure Realms The Buddha and bodhisattvas teach this acceptance even in afflicted buddha realms inundated with impurities — worlds where beings are deeply obscured by unwholesome conditions. This underscores the bodhisattva vow to work for the welfare of all beings without preference. 🌱 4. Ripening Beings “Taming beings” here means skillfully leading beings toward awakening (bodhi), uprooting ignorance and afflictions through this deep acceptance and conduct.
