Police Dog Marley Finds Missing Person

You might think our police dogs are mostly chasing down criminals, but they can also play a crucial role in finding vulnerable missing people 🐕 In the early hours of Monday, PD Marley was called in to help find an elderly man who had been reported missing after leaving his home. Marley and his handler were dispatched to help with the search, and Marley walked around the garden and the place where the man had left the house to try and establish a scent. He then tracked the scent away from the house, over a barbed wire fence and through long grass in a field until he successfully located the man. Marley then returned to his handler and other officers were able to quickly move in and provide help. Chief Inspector James Farrar, our Dog Section lead, said: “This incident goes to show how invaluable our dogs are and the unique capabilities they bring. “Given the time of night and the cold weather conditions, the outcome could have been very different had we not been able to locate this man so quickly. “Our dogs play a vital role in policing, supporting many other teams to keep our communities safe.” Good boy, Marley! 🐾
