Roland Ratzenberger was born on July 4, 1960 in Salzburg, Austria. From an early age, Roland developed a deep love for racing because of his grandmother, who used to take him watch the local Hillclimb races at Gaisberg. However, Roland's journey into the world of Formula One was not like other typical racing stories. Born into a middle class family, Roland had to work hard to reach his goal. And after many years of competing for Formula Ford, Le Mans, Japanese Sports Prototype, he got a life changing opportunity to join the Simtek team in 1994. However, on April 30th, 1994, while competing in the 2nd qualifiers of San Marino Grand Prix at Imola, something unexpected happened. Ironically, just the next day on May 1, 1994, another tragedy struck and the world of Formula One lost yet another legend, Ayrton Senna.
