Moderated by Aaron Morrill, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Jersey City Times, this webinar brings together experts to discuss the findings of the Regional Plan Association’s (RPA) report Housing Jersey City, which assesses the city’s growing housing gap and its long-term implications. Marcel Negret, RPA’s Director of Land Use, presents data showing how Jersey City’s rapid population growth and limited housing production have created an affordability crisis, despite record development. The report projects a deficit of up to 36,000 housing units by 2032, showing the urgent need for policies that balance growth, affordability, and equity. Following the presentation, a panel featuring Moses Gates (RPA Vice President for Housing and Neighborhood Planning), Nicole Vecchione (Director of Research, Eastern Region, LIUNA), and Bill Massacutas (Chairman, Hudson County Affordable Housing Task Force) explores solutions such as inclusionary zoning, affordability mandates, and equitable redevelopment. Together, they examine how Jersey City can preserve its economic and cultural diversity while ensuring sustainable housing opportunities for all residents.
