Power Overview We provide two types of power in our vans: AC and DC power. DC Power DC power is stored in the batteries and will directly power components such as your fan, Espar heater, and rocker switches without the need for an inverter. Does not require an inverter 2 DC outlets on the electronics cabinet AC Power The 2nd type of power is AC power. Just like in your house, you will have the 3 prong 120 volt outlets throughout the van. Up to 5 outlets mounted throughout the van allow you to plug in your AC powered accessories. Each outlet also contains two USB chargers. The outlets are also child safe. This means you may struggle to plug devices or appliances in at times. Note that appliances will draw a small amount of power while plugged in, even if not in use. Plugging into shore power automatically powers outlets. For more info, reference inverter information. Breakers for the outlets can be found on the power tower. Power Tower The Power Tower, located in the rear on the driver’s side, houses all the important controls, displays, batteries, and fuses of your electrical system. Through these controls and displays, you can view how much solar power you're taking in, how much power the van is using, the status of the batteries, monitor the carbon monoxide and propane detector/alarm, and control most of the electronics in the van. CombiMaster Inverter ( 2000 Watt Inverter/Charger/AC Transfer Switch) The Inverter is a 3-in-1 inverter. It converts the incoming DC current from the batteries to AC current for 120V wall outlets, charges the batteries from shore power, and has an AC transfer switch which allows AC powered devices to be powered directly from shore power when plugged in as opposed to inverting the battery power. The inverter charger remote, located above the sliding passenger door, tells you real time readings on power, state of charge, overall sum of incoming/discharge of batteries, and how long you have left till your batteries are dead. The inverter needs to be turned on for any of the Vandoit-installed wall outlets to work. Turn it off when you are leaving the van, as it will draw a small amount of power. Your van has 2000 watts of invertering power. Plugging into shore powers AC devices directly. You will not be able to turn the inverter off while plugged into shore power. You can adjust the shore power max amperage through the settings if you're on a dedicated circuit. Shore Power & Solar Input Socket One way to charge your van’s battery system is to plug it into shore power. The socket for shore power is located at the rear of your van on the driver’s side. Use a 15 gauge extension cord that is no more than 30 feet long. Be sure to unplug the extension cord before driving away to avoid damage to the cord and socket. The ground solar input socket is located next to the shore power socket. This socket can be used to plug in extra ground solar panels, which provide an additional way to charge your van’s battery system. Solar Power/Solar Controller Solar works to trickle charge your van when sunlight is available. It is not something you turn on or off. The solar controller, mounted on the power tower, displays the charging status, how many incoming amps you have, total solar collected, and voltage of the battery. The GoPower solar controller is expandable up to 600 watts of solar. You can lightly press the “B” button to cycle through the different display options. We suggest leaving it on the amperage setting. Remote Battery Switch This large, yellow, tear-shaped switch in the power box controls the flow of power to and from the batteries. There are “events” scheduled in your battery system to disconnect the flow or connect the flow. Starting the vehicle would be an event that connects the relay again. It will charge at a rate up to 50amps. Fuses There are two sets of fuses located inside the Power Tower. One set will be labeled with a “Vandoit” sticker. This will label what DC accessories are tied to. Second, you will find bigger fuses that tie to batteries and the inverter. Breaker Switches There is a set of 4 circuit breaker switches on the Power Tower for AC power. Much like the breaker switches in your home, an overloaded circuit will trip the breaker switch. When turned on, the switches should have green light. If a breaker turns off, check the operation of the appliances in your van before turning a breaker back on. The air conditioner is tied to the only 20A breaker. The 15A breakers are for your outlets. Three 15A breakers are set to control outlets in zones: Front cabin, driver’s side, and passenger’s side.
