THE HYPOCRISY OF AVOIDING TO SWALLOW AN INSECT BUT SWALLOWING A CAMEL

It’s very unfortunate and sad to see how religion has blinded the mind of people to the extent of interpreting the scriptures out of its context and using that wrong interpretation as a doctrine in the church of Jesus Christ. Mathew 23:23 is always quoted by many today to teach and support the doctrine of tithing, insinuating that Jesus taught and emphasized that we should tithe, but they forget that when Jesus was speaking the law of Moses was at work and the temple was still standing and the Levitical priesthood was active. They also fail to understand that the new covenant was not yet established when Jesus was confronting the hypocrisy of the Pharisees and the Sadducee. This famous Math 23:23 is always misquoted out of its context leading believers into error for not reading the whole thought of Mathew which flows from chapter 22:34.In its context Jesus was dealing with the hypocrisy of these guys since they pretended to keep and observe the whole law but they never paid attention to the most important matters. It’s in that state Jesus turned to the multitude in the presence of these hypocrites and started addressing the multitude revealing to them who these PHARISEES AND SADDUCEES really are. Jesus said that THEY SEAT ON MOSES SEAT BINDING HEAVY BURDENS HARD TO BEAR AND LAYING THEM ON THE SHOULDERS OF MEN AND THEY THEMSELVES CANNOT MOVE THEM WITH ONE FINGER. Jesus continued further to reveal their hypocrisy in verse 23 where he mentioned the issue of tithes and he said; "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel! This was happening at that time because the law of Moses was still in effect and the Jews were still observing all laws.Jesus addressed many works observed by these guys one of them being the act of tithing that was perfectly observed by the pharisees and he compares them with SOMEONE SWALLOWING A CAMEL BUT AVOIDING TO SWALLOW AN INSECT. If we say and insist that whatever Jesus mentioned in Math 23;23 was to be practiced by the church, then we should also obey verse 32, where Jesus instructs the Pharisees to fill up the measure of their fathers guilt!. It’s evident by all means that Jesus was addressing a totally different issue and not teaching that his church should tithe, he was only addressing and referring to the hypocritical acts of the pharisees. Remember at this time, the temple was standing and the Levitical priesthood active and the new covenant not yet established. The church that Jesus Christ established in his death WAS NOT AND DOES NOT OPERATE under the Levitical priesthood nor the law of Moses. Good news is that Jesus taught and gave a law which is the law of the new covenant, and by it all the needs of the ministers of the gospel and the needy among those who believe in Jesus are meet. It’s only when we obey the commandment of the new covenant which is LOVE that all needs shall be catered for. In Christ Jesus we are free from the law [10 commandments] and all its ordinances. Paul in the book of Galatians 4:4-5 reveals the reason why Jesus come, he states that when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his son, born of a woman, born under the law to REDEEM those who are under the law that we might receive adoption as sons. To everyone who believes in Jesus, THE ONLY LAW WE ARE OBLIGATED TO KEEP AND FOLLOW IS THE LAW OF LOVE;LOVING THE LORD OUR GOD WITH ALL OUR STRENGTH AND LOVING OUR NEIGHBOURS AS WE LOVE OUR SELF.
