Home Brew: Bonfire Toffee Apple Cider 7% ABV: • Making a Bonfire Toffee Apple Flavoured Ha... . Hey folks, remember, remember the 5th of November? In this film I'll be making a cider, which has been inspired by the great British tradition of Bonfire Night. This is also known as Guy Fawkes Night, which is an annual commemoration observed on 5 November, primarily in the United Kingdom. Its history begins with the events of 5 November 1605, when Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested while guarding explosives the plotters had placed beneath the House of Lords. Celebrating the fact that King James I had survived the attempt on his life, people lit bonfires around London; and months later, the introduction of the Observance of 5th November Act enforced an annual public day of thanksgiving for the plot's failure. To read more about Bonfire Night, click here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Faw... . On Bonfire Night people traditionally eat bonfire toffee (a dark bitter toffee), and eat toffee apples, which are apples dipped in bubbling red hot toffee, left to go hard and crispy on the outside. In this film I'll be making a cider which is inspired by both bonfire toffee and toffee apples, which I'll be calling my bonfire toffee apple cider. I make the cider from apples from my own garden, along with two tins of black treacle, a pan of tea and spring water. Initially I was aiming to make two gallons (10 litres) of cider, and I was going to compare two different yeasts, however as both ciders were extremely sediment heavy, I racked them into one fermenting vessel. At bottling, I added sugar for carbonation as well as a pipette of apple flavoured MyProtein Flavdrops. The cider was left to condition for a month before opening and tasting. The end result was a sparkling cider, which tasted incredible, it was nothing like any cider that I have tried before, in fact it looked and smelled like a beer and it tasted like a marshmallow porter. It was very tasty and very drinkable, however if I were to make this again, I would bottle it into smaller bottles, as in a 750ml bottle, it did become a little sickly towards the end. Cheers folks!
