Raising the Achievement of All Learners in Inclusive Education - Rosmini, Italy

The Agency’s Raising the Achievement of All Learners in Inclusive Education project (2014–2017) aims to provide evidence of effective practice in raising achievement and building the capacity of schools and communities to include and support all learners. The project involves a range of stakeholders including school leaders, researchers, teachers, parents and learners, as well as local and national policy makers. Three Learning Communities were chosen to take forward the school-based work: in Rome, Italy, in Łajski, Poland and in East Kilbride, UK (Scotland). In 2015, the project team and participants visited the three sites in order to explore the identified issues and support the learning communities to introduce relevant initiatives. Video from the Learning Community in Rosmini, Italy The Antonio Rosmini learning community is a primary and lower-secondary school. It has always aimed to be inclusive, but participation in the Raising Achievement project has helped. It led it to try a new educational model, new curriculum and customised learning experiences and paths. It made the school’s use of space and time more flexible. The educational model became one where learners express their interests, needs and curiosities, while teachers try to understand and meet these. Teachers have made a significant commitment to self-training and updating their skills. The school aims to give learners opportunities to express their cognitive, creative and emotional potential. It sees inclusion as a transforming principle.
