The Bible says: "Wise men lay up knowledge" Proverbs 10:14. When we build a library of excellent books to read and study in our homes, then we are laying up knowledge. Protestants are people of The Book—The 66 Books of the Protestant Bible! We read, write, publish, purchase, store, and give books. We are known to bring books with us, and to give them to others: "when thou comest, bring...the books" 2 Timothy 4:13. When you build a library of excellent books in your house—books that teach Calvinist theology, Protestant history, as well as other important subjects—then you are building a physical internet of information—a matrix of Reformed knowledge. A good library can be thought of as an internet of paper books. One of the important differences between your home library and the electronic internet, that you are using at this moment, is that no one can turn off your paper books. If the power goes out, you still have your books, even though access to the world wide web has vanished. If you only have "e-books," then you are at the mercy of those who keep the internet on for you. Think about that. Actual books are far more important than the internet, and so you should build your own physical library. Virtual libraries are no replacement for physical libraries. There was a time I would have never thought I would have to say this: "Get an actual hard copy of the King James Bible." By the term 'hard copy,' I mean an actual printed version of the Bible on paper. You need a hard copy of the Bible, of the most important works of Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Knox, John Bunyan, John Owen, John Gill, William Romaine, and so on. Once you obtain hard copies of the Bible and other excellent books on history, grammar, logic, philosophy, chemistry, physics, mathematics, then sit down and read them. Master your library. Protestants do not have books for decoration—we have the books because we believe they are important to read and know. Who cares if the book is pretty—what does it teach and is it correct? See Isaiah 8:20. History has shown us that individual Presbyterian and Reformed believers build libraries, transforming their homes into Calvinist schools, and provide powerful education to their children and neighbors. These libraries glorify God and benefit our neighbors. One book you can purchase and add to your library is my book on Law/Gospel Distinction titled: It Demands Nothing, But It Gives All: The Gospel Of Jesus Christ. I'll put a link to that book in the comment section of this article. God bless.
