Testing the Road King on Clocktower Harley-Davidson's season opening day. Meanwhile I've ridden a lot of different Harleys. They all have their merits but the Road King is, for sure, the one I would buy if I found a large amount of money under my mattress. It has got all the coziness of the even more expensive touring models but is a little bit lighter than the E-Glide Ultra Limited or the Road Glide. And I prefer the conventional no-nonsense windshield of the Road King to the massive fairings of these two models with all their gimmicks like the entertainment system. The new Milwaukee Eight engine runs really smooth, compared to other Harley engines. At idle the 103 cui engine shakes the handlebars and the new 107 cui engine simply doesn't. It delivers always enough power for this big piece of heavy metal. Of course, acceleration-wise it can't compete with an also comfortable naked bike like a Honda CB1000R, but, as a cruiser it doesn't need to. What I like especially: The comfortable seated position and the now smooth engine What I would change: I would remove the back part of the heel-toe shifter because it occupies exactly the place where I want to put my left foot on the footboard and move the Handlebar a little bit backwards (I stand 1.73 m). And last but not least I would wish a topcase with backrest that can store two integral helmets.
