Since writing our hurricane prep book back in May 2025 and since "reactivating" our YouTube channel, we are fleshing out the concepts in our book, and one of those concepts is using a vehicle trailer hitch to leverage your storm cleanup efforts. We show you how to make up such a contraption, why it is designed like it is, what to watch out for when using such a tool and why it is so productive. We designed our hitch assembly with an extended bar, a chain holder/open toolbox, a sliding grab hook bar and chain hooks to turn our small Ford Transit Connect van into a log skidder! We pulled fallen trees and branches up to 15 inches in diameter, we pulled countless loads of brush on a tarp, and we transformed our storm-ravaged community in a matter of days using this tool. (We wish we had more pictures of the tarp in use, but we do not. We were too busy working on cleaning up our community at the time.) We mentioned near the end of the video that this kind of hitch assembly makes storm cleanup easy, but the reality is that while it does ease the process, any kind of post-storm activity is extremely difficult! Thinking ahead really matters, and this video showcases one more way that you can use what you have to overcome mother nature and her insidious obstacles that she can throw your way at any time. They are inexpensive and much safer and easier to use than rope.
