Artistic, musical and dance communities such as breakdancing provide people with a unique chance to become fully fledged members of communities which are can be highly inclusive and egalitarian. This can help develop a range of key competences for working life, often the types of competences which are hard to develop in formal education. Ilari Niskanen coordinates and modernises emergency response in an area of some 220,000 inhabitants. Having been in breakdancing for over 15 years he is interested in how involvement with the artistic, musical and dance communities provide a foundation for developing key skills for working life.
