It's the highlight of the year, the East Lancashire Railway "Summer Spectacular" July Diesel Gala! What a line up too with several visiting engines and a major coup in the form of a Colas Rail Freight Class 60... We begin on Friday at Burrs where the new "Burrs Country Park" station has introduced a new dynamic with the shuttles having to attack Burrs from a standing start (meaning plenty of thrash from engines both big & small). Due to a few circumstances I left Burrs not long after lunchtime and relocated to Castlecroft Depot just outside Bury Bolton Street Station where the action is still going strong. Saturday's footage consists of the visiting Colas "Tug" 60026 arriving at Bury Bolton Street with 56006 on the rear and D1501 arriving back on shed at Buckley Wells as well as a few still pictures from my phone including one of 60026 at Heywood (I had the honour of working this locomotive on the Saturday afternoon, surely the highlight of the year for me). Sunday sees shots of D832 arriving back at Bury on the "shuttle" as well as 47712 "Lady Diana Spencer" leaving with a Rawtenstall service, 50015 "Valiant" passing through platform 3 on a light engine move and finally 56006 arriving back at Bury to finish off my traction packed weekend. The following locomotives are included in this video; Class 25 - D7629 Class 33 - 33109 Class 40 - 40106, 40135, 40145 Class 42 - D832 Class 47 - D1501, 47192, 47712 Class 50 - 50015 Class 56 - 56006 Class 60 - 60026 Class 73 - 73001 This was a fantastic event with awesome weather on the Saturday & Sunday and had a very high turnout rate for the Saturday - probably something to do with the "tug" and despite a couple of small issues ran without any major problems and is a credit to the team at the ELR for organizing and running the event as well as the visiting locomotive's teams. *I must apologise for the phone shots on the Saturday & Sunday, while I still had my proper camera with me I was unable to use it during my secondman turns so used my phone which actually records in a higher quality, though it seems this time has developed an intermittent fault with the sound. ** I know I've already said it but getting to be the Secondman on the Class 60 was awesome!
