Various of fans and police in standoff STORYLINE With both Germany and England playing key World Cup games on Tuesday, police braced for trouble, but generally presided over large-scale street parties instead. There were exceptions. About an hour after the match between England and Sweden, helmeted officers arrested 40 to 50 Germans they identified as hooligans, a police spokesman said. Video shot by Associated Press Television News showed that as police moved in, bystanders threw chairs, tables and bottles. No other details were immediately available. Generally, however, a party atmosphere prevailed as tens of thousands of fans from England and Sweden celebrated a 2-2 match that let both teams make the tournament's second round. Also celebrating were Germans, whose team trounced Ecuador 3-0 in Berlin earlier in the day. Police in the German capital reported no trouble.
