Welcome to another Hiking Required video, episode 6 in my Shropshire Hills series. In this episode I hike to the summit of an Iron Age Hill Fort near Aston on Clun Shropshire. Burrow at only 358m is not as high as quite a few other hills in Shropshire, but it is still one of the 10 Shropshire Marilyns, with a prominence of 189m of ascent. In this video I follow a permitted path around the perimeter of Oaker Wood before beginning my ascent via a public footpath to a Waymarker showing allowable routes up to the Hill Fort. The summit of Burrow is within the ramparts of the Hill Fort towards the western end. I decided to head up the track to the east so that I could walk up through the fort. The plan was to return via the western path to come full circle. This ascent on this route is fairly gentle, with just a few embankments to climb within the fort itself. The summit is marked by the skelton of a sun bleached tree. Perhaps the White Tree of Gondor incarnate! On this occasion I returned via the permitted path to the west, but plan to return in a different season to see how different it all looks! ///Route Details/// Shropshire Marilyn's, Episode 6 – Burrow.
