Keynote presentation delivered by Dr Cheryl Allsop on 12 July 2021 at the DTA Summer School "Showcasing the Interdisciplinarity of the DTA Community" Cheryl is Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the University of South Wales. She researches cold cases including unsolved murders, sexual violence and missing people, with interest in police investigation processes. Her ESRC funded doctoral research entitled A Reliance on Science: DNA, Detective Work and Cold Case Major Crime Reviews is an ethnographic account of how the police seek to solve long term unsolved homicides and stranger rapes. The research explored the opportunities and challenges faced by detectives when reviewing cold cases, in particular the use of forensic science techniques and technologies. Last year, she published Cold Case Reviews: DNA, Detective Work and Unsolved Major Crimes. Cheryl is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
