I found some old comparison videos I made in 2022 while I was researching for the Gran Turismo 4 Ultimate Guide, and figured I'd upload them here, so people can understand how rigidity wear affects their car. The first clip compares how a car holds grip after being driven for 1,000km, both with and without the "Increase Rigidity" upgrade bought. Starting a free run in Driving Park Gymkhana, I held left on the d-pad so the car would immediately turn left on GO, and the inputs would be 100% consistent every time. I tuned the car so it would be on the limit of grip while turning with 0km, and the wear can showcase how the car takes longer to re-gain grip. The second clip compares how a car drives at high speeds after being driven for 0km, 1,000km, 2,000km and 3,000km. In this comparison, notice how the 2,000 and 3,000km cars react violently to sudden adjustments to correct the car's direction, with the 3,000km car feeling particularly unstable. The shocking thing to me, even revisiting it now, is how the negative effects of the "Increase Rigidity" upgrade can be immediately seen, even with zero rigidity wear. The effects only become more noticeable with wear, to the point where the car becomes extremely difficult to drive in a straight line. I don't know what PD were intending the upgrade to do, but it definitely looks like it's bugged. So, to summarize: don't buy the "Increase Rigidity" upgrade, and make sure your car's rigidity is fresh before taking it into a long championship or an endurance. These tests were performed on both the PAL and NTSC-U releases of Gran Turismo 4, with consistent results.
