In this video, I hand-assemble my custom "Bare Bones" ESP32-C3 V2 board from scratch using a stencil, solder paste, and a hot plate. In our previous project, we achieved the "Holy Grail" of 5µA deep sleep, but we relied on a factory to build it. Today, we are doing it the hard way. This V2 design features a unique Dual-Mode Power Topology—a slide switch that allows you to choose between Regulated Mode (safe for 4.2V LiPo/USB) or Direct Mode (regulator bypass for 3.2V LiFePO4), drastically reducing quiescent current. I’ll walk you through the entire process: from the 4-layer KiCad design optimized for RF performance to the "Pinky Anchor" technique for placing small 0805 components with shaky hands. We’ll also cover how to design castellated holes so you can use this board as a module in your own projects.
