Just like the last video, this one's also a bit different... Here I have an unmodded Akko 3098S board. All the switches to the left of and including the arrow cluster are Gateron G Pro Reds. The switches to the right (so the numpad and macros above it) are Keychron Reds. A little unusual, but read below for my thoughts on the two as well as the board itself. Most of my opinions in comparing these switches is based on the feel, and not just the audio you hear in the video. I know that the numpad sounds different than the rest of the board, even with uniform switches... So this isn't a direct comparison by any means. Join me on my keyboard journey! Keyboard: Akko 3098S (stock) Switches (majority): Gateron G Pro Red (stock) Switches (numpad + macros): Keychron Red (stock) Keycaps: Akko Dracula Castle + Akko Bred (both (ASA, PBT) Cable: CableMod Pro Straight Aviator Cable (Midnight Black) Deskmat: YUNZII Desk Pad Mouse Mat -Starry (D) Microphone: Blue Yeti (w/ windscreen, ~8" above center of board) Camera: Samsung Galaxy S22 On the Switches: Gateron G Pro Red... One of many simple, affordable Cherry MX Red clones. And Keychron Red... a newer clone of the classic linear switch for even cheaper. I'm not into linear switches all that much, and I only happen to have the Gaterons because they came with my Q10. I had bought some of the Keychrons before ever having the Gaterons in order to try out linear switches. There are many reviews on the Gaterons, as they are some of them most used switches out there. I thought they were...fine? At least they have some factory lube that works out okay. The Keychron switches, on the other hand... Noticeably scratchier. They are some of the cheapest switches you can get though if your budget is tight (assuming you are already buying something from Keychron, as their shipping isn't cheap). However, I'd never recommend using these without planning to lube them yourself. And even then, they may not be worth it. I'd have a hard time even recommending the Gaterons to anyone who's really serious to be honest... So I'd say avoid these Keychron switches unless you just want to experiment with them. Worth noting is that Keychron does also have "Keychron K Pro" switches. These are not those. On the Board: Like much of Akko's lineup, the 3098S presents a decent value. I bought this board because I wanted the keycaps it came with, as well as to try the switches I got it with (Jelly Purple). It was also on sale! So the board itself was essentially free for me. I thought that the sound was pretty good out of the box (although not with the Jelly Purples... they need some love). I think the stabilizers pretty nice with no mods. I haven't hardly used the board though. It is mostly acting as a display piece for my partner. It rarely gets typed on, so for now I'm leaving these red switches in it (as they aren't super, and they match the red theme). More to come!
