This Walnut Branch Became the Handle | Handmade Wooden Bowl

This piece started with an unusual cut of walnut wood — a log with a branch still attached. It felt as if the branch had tried to wrap itself around the trunk, and when the tree was cut, it stayed. At first, I thought about removing the branch completely. But then I decided to keep it — and let it become the handle. I stripped the bark and cleaned the surface. Then I carved around the branch, thinning it down until it fit naturally in the hand. Next came the bowl itself. I carved the inside to find the form, then shaped the outside to balance the piece. The handle was still too thick, so I refined it further — slowly, carefully. Once the carving was complete, sanding began. Every surface, every curve, until the bowl became smooth and clean. The final step was applying a food-safe oil made for wooden vessels. As the oil soaked in, the grain and roots revealed themselves.
