(BlackTree TV - Los Angeles) BlackTree TV's Jamaal Finkley sits down to talk to Mrs. Paula Patton and Mr. Laz Alonso, two of Hollywood's rising stars who are the stars of the new movie Jumping The Broom. We talk about them being part of a 'wedding movie' as well as career choices that got them there. Things go hilariously awry when two very different families meet for the first time at a weekend wedding on Martha's Vineyard in the insightful and inspirational comedy Jumping the Broom. PAULA PATTON (Sabrina Watson) emerged as an unforgettable talent with her leading roles in the Tony Scott film Déjà Vu and the original musical Idlewild. In Déjà Vu Paula starred opposite Academy Award winning actor Denzel Washington and Jim Caviezel. However, Paula's memorable performance as the compassionate Ms. Rain in the critically acclaimed drama Precious is the role that quickly made her a household name. Paula's body of work is proof that she is one of today's most gifted actresses. Paula recently wrapped filming the highly anticipated fourth installment of the popular Mission Impossible franchise, titled Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol. Paula will star alongside Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner in the action film. Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol will be released December 16, 2011. Paula last appeared on the big screen opposite Queen Latifah and Common in the hit film Just Wright. Paula starred in the critically-acclaimed and award winning film Precious, directed by Lee Daniels. Precious garnered numerous award nominations, the film was nominated for six 2010 Academy Awards, including Best Motion Picture of the Year. Patton was also nominated for an NAACP Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her pivotal role in the film. Paula grew up in Los Angeles, attending the Hamilton School for the Performing Arts. Paula always had a passion for acting as well as film making; upon graduating from high school she was chosen as one of four young filmmakers for a documentary series for PBS titled: "The Ride," which followed the four filmmakers as they directed their own documentary films about young people across America. After spending her freshman year of college at UC Berkeley, with an increasing passion for film making, Paula transferred to the prestigious USC Film School, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Upon graduation, she began doing various production assistant work, and eventually worked her way up to shooting and producing a show titled: "Medical Diaries" for The Discovery Channel. When the show was completed, Paula realized her love of acting and immediately enrolled in acting classes, and after a year of studying she decided to pursue a career in professional acting. Paula resides in Los Angeles. LAZ ALONSO (Jason Taylor) Chosen as one of Variety's "Top Ten Actors to Watch in 2009" and part of the new breed of emerging leading men in Hollywood, actor Laz Alonso can currently be seen top lining the new A&E series "Breakout Kings." Born and raised in Washington DC, Laz always knew he wanted to be an actor. He remembers at a very early age entertaining his family by imitating relatives and family friends. He graduated from the prestigious Howard University School of Business, earning a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing. After college, he worked on Wall Street at an investment banking firm. He and two partners eventually started their own marketing business, promoting mainstream products to the trend-setting urban market. Owning and operating his own successful business freed up Laz's time to finally explore his passion for acting. Laz began taking classes in the evening to hone his craft and it didn't take him long to begin landing roles in commercials and videos. Laz can currently be seen in the lead role of "Tsu'Tey" in the highest grossing film of all time, Avatar! In early 2009, Laz played the lead villain role of "Fenix" in the fourth installment of highly popular Fast and the Furious franchise. The film went on to be the highest grossing film in 2009 for Universal Pictures. From D.C. to New York, Laz feels his upbringing not only taught him how to deal with the school of hard knocks, but also prepared him for his biggest goal, his acting career. He credits the move to NYC as his move into manhood and the city holds many great memories for him.
