Lucki’s long awaited album, “Flawless Like Me” has been teased for years now and has essentially been hyped up to be Lucki’s magnum opus much like how WLR was perceived by Playboi Carti fans long before the album even dropped. With Lucki undergoing plenty of different aesthetic changes within the last couple of years, most notably his voice and beat selection, I was curious to see if we would receive a mixture of different styles on this album. Known for most of his career to express addiction, infatuation, fame, heartbreak and a myriad of other emotions through a nonchalant, sad drug induced filter, Lucki has recently opted to turn the melancholy aesthetic of his music down a notch. He’s turned some of his focus more on the riches and excitement that his rap career has afforded him. And that is the case for most of this album. We don’t hear lines like “got my mama googling lean sending me kidney stuff” instead we hear Lucki label himself as a junkie but in a much more glorified way. Most of his lines have become much more braggadocious than we’re used to. However it’s his voice and delivery that almost tell a different story. His rapping can sound numb and strained regardless of the content that he’s rapping about, which alludes to his substance abuse. The beats he raps on are usually in complete contrast to the lyrics. Lucki opts to use loud, experimental, fast paced, psychedelic trap instrumentals to convey all of his emotions whether the emotions are negative or positive. The beats sound futuristic and place the listener into Lucki’s world while Lucki’s lyrics and delivery introduce the listener into his current state of mind. The flows and raps on here are one of kind. Lucki has always been great at finding unique pockets to rap in and effortlessly creating relatable one liners. The two features that Lucki brought on his album brought their A game but most importantly seemed to have drawn out an energy and effort from Lucki that honestly shocked me. Not to say that his artistry has been made without any effort at all but the way Lucki was rapping with Babyface and Future was out of this world. The two feature tracks definitely stand out in an already fantastic album. My only complaint about the album is the number of tracks. I think there were 3-5 songs that didn’t quite match the quality that the rest of the album was putting out. If the album were trimmed a bit, I think this would definitely be a contender for my favorite Lucki album. All in all, I’m very much satisfied with this body of work and will be listening to this on repeat for quite some time. Thanks for reading and watching!
