Full routing details in the description! I wanted to experiment with the external audio input on the Behringer Crave to try to get some of the thickness of a multi-oscillator synth. In this case I'm using the Volca keys in unison mode. The Volca is much too quiet to drive the external audio line input, so I'm using my old Presonus Tube Pre to boost the signal until it's at the same level as the Crave's Oscillator. The routing is set up as follows: Midi comes into the Crave from the Circuit Tracks on midi track 1 (channel 3). Then the midi out/thru on the Crave goes to the midi in port on the Volca Keys, set to the same midi channel. The Volca has its filter all the way open and sustain all the way up, attack and decay all the way down. When it receives midi data it plays notes back and the output is routed into the Presonus Tube Pre and then back to the Crave via external audio. The external audio mix knob lets me blend between the Crave and the Volca. The combined sound then passes through the Crave's filter and amp stages, resulting in a cool combined bass sound! Finally, that's routed back to input 1 on the Circuit Tracks so I can apply the built in effects and side-chain ducking, and the output of the Circuit Tracks is recorded to my DAW. One additional thing I had to do for this setup was to stop the sequencers in the Crave AND the Volca from triggering when I pressed play on the circuit. For the Crave, I had to connect it to my computer via USB and open the Behringer Synth Tribe app to disable the sequencer sync. For the Volca, I had to boot into global settings (hold Function when turning it on) and set the clock source to internal by turning option 6 off. To save the global settings on the Volca, press Record. Phew, that was a lot! I probably won't use a Volca with External Audio on the Crave very often because it's pretty complicated, but it does expand the sound of the Crave in a fun way! After the initial audio test, there's a DAWless jam driven by the Circuit Tracks. I'm using two Pad sounds on the tracks, plus the Crave setup described above for a Bass sound on midi track 1 and The Behringer Pro VS Mini (routed to input 2 on the Circuit) for a string pluck using the factory Sitar patch on midi track 2. I learned some new tricks on the Circuit while putting this jam together. One of the pads uses the pattern settings to slow the sync rate down so it plays at one quarter of the usual speed. I've also shortened the pattern from 32 steps to 30 steps, so it doesn't loop at the same point as the rest of the channels. Finally, it received heavy sidechain ducking. All together, it works as a sort of evolving texture that I think keeps the arrangement dynamic. On some of the drum tracks, I have additional hits triggering at low probability to introduce some variety into the drum loop. Experimenting with the Tracks on this one was a lot of fun.
