"Taptoe" or the "Tattoo" originated from "Marschen en Signalen voor de Tamboers en Pypers van de Armée," a Dutch fife and drum manual by the Dutch-German composer Jacob Rauscher, written in 1815 for the newly reformed Dutch-Belgian army. A PDF of the manual can be found here (http://www.grenadiercompagnie.nl/Best.... Note: the "ra" stroke is very similar to what we would refer to as a "Multiple Bounce Roll" or a "Buzz roll," where you allow the stick to bounce on the drum-head. I used MuseScore Studio to create both the sheet music and audio (using the MuseSounds plugin as well). The images are as follows: 1. A depiction of William, Prince of Orange, at the Battle of Quatre Bras, leading a battalion of the National Militia. 2. A painting of William, Prince of Orange by Nicaise de Keyser. 3. "The Prince of Orange at Quatre Bras" by Jan Willem Pieneman. 4. A lithograph of Jacob Rauscher, who composed this piece. 5. A depiction of a Dutch captain, acting as an adjutant to a general.
