Singapore study to explore using AI social robots to interact with seniors

A new research will be launched in February to study how AI-powered robots can better support seniors to age well in Singapore's eldercare centres. One key focus is to encourage more social interaction among seniors. Two such robots will be deployed at four PCF Sparkle Care centres for six months. Seniors will be assessed on their experiences, including how readily they accept the machines, whether there is cognitive improvement, and how they strengthen social connections through it. Associate Professor Kelvin Tan, head of Applied Ageing Studies at SUSS, and PCF Sparkle Care chief operating officer Andy Seet shared more about the AI social robots.
