Here's an arrangement of the beautiful original song, Tides, by my kamioshi @UtanoPandora . Please enjoy and don't forget to #StreamTides. Original song: • 【ORIGINAL SONG】Tides - Utano Pandora Plugin/VST: Speldosa (Swedish Music Box) by @klevgrand and @Wintergatan ============================================= I think my arrangement is in a point where I can't explain the thought process in under 5000 characters. However, I can explain the two major changes that I make from the original song. 1. The key changes from Db to Eb is inspired by the lyric "When you looked me in the eyes". The key Db is more intimate (so the original song feel like an internal monologue), meanwhile the key Eb is more open (so I made a section felt like she is talking to us, Friendoras). 2. Tons of reharmonization. The original chord progression is repetitive, but it still delivers the story because of Pandora's singing. When you strip everything to basically just vibrating hunks of metal, it sounds so flat. I think I did a good job with the reharmonization, where the song still has the same meaning with a completely different tone. In my personal opinion, this is my best music that I made, even better than "UTopiA NO Kagami". I think this is due to several reasons: 1. Previously, I was struggling in making anything that sounds huge. Idk how to explain but, huge isn't just loud (compare this video to "Waiting for Aura", you will understand what I meant). My original song, "Dream of Spring", helped me a lot in understanding what to do to make a huge sounding music, which is CRUCIAL for "Tides". 2. I believe my understanding of music theory have increased by a significant amount. I realized this when writing "Dream of Spring". By no means it is good, but it is so much better compared to earlier this year. 3. When writing "UTopiA NO Kagami", I was struggling emotionally. I don't know what should I feel, let alone put it into a music. The song "UTopiA NO Kagami" was so out of reach, I don't even believe I wrote that. Whenever I was doubting myself, I keep listening back to "UTopiA NO Kagami", and I can't believe how much that song helped me this year. You can say that I grew, emotionally, just from listening to it. Originally, I plan to upload this song at the end of 2024. But I feel like if I publish it sooner, it will help my kamioshi more. Surprise surprise, I made this in 5 days. Yes I am addicted to making music and will make more music in the future. Thank you for following my journey in supporting my kamioshi and see you in my next music~ ============================================= Lastly, I swear this is probably one of the most beautiful VST that I've ever heard. Not to mention, I am a huge fan of Wintergatan and you know how integral the music box to their song. When Wintergatan uploaded the "ads" for the VST, I don't even know it's an ad. I thought it's straight up a new music from them lol. You can see the VST is a recording of an actual music box due to the microtones (it's basically impossible to equally temper the music box, similar to church bells). I believe the microtones add so much depth to this song that can't be replicated through synth or even piano.
