For businesses, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting, sustainability, and corporate responsibility are increasingly viewed as essential to enhancing employee engagement, customer loyalty, and corporate reputation. For nonprofits however, ESG and other sustainability practices are most often seen as “nice to have” rather than essential components to delivering their missions for social good. How can ESG frameworks and reporting help nonprofit organizations further their missions? In managing endowments, how do green and socially responsible funds perform relative to other types of investment portfolios? How do boards and staff approach this work in policy and practice? This session highlights findings from a recent survey of local nonprofits regarding ESG and sustainability practices to answer these questions and more. Featuring: Darbi Berry, San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative at The Nonprofit Institute (moderator) Ann Tartre, SustainabilityNext Anna Diaz, Partner, Dowling and Yahnke Dan Mueller, Development Director, GRID Alternatives This breakout session was recorded on June 24th as part of the 2021 Summer Nonprofit Governance Symposium.
