On 13th June 1997 fire broke out at Uphaar cinema theatre located at Green Park Delhi. Bollywood Movie Border was being screened at the theatre at that time. Due to negligence of theatre management and lapse in regulations, people got trapped inside the theatre and 59 people died due to suffocation. 103 people got injured. Investigation was handed to CBI after with 12 people were convicted in this case including the cinema owners, Ansal brothers. A civil compensation case was also filed which led to 25 crore rupees awarded as compensation to family of victims.
