SA battles with challenges of poverty and inequality

Minister of Planning Monitoring and Evaluation, Maropene Ramokgopa, says poverty and inequality remain structural challenges facing the country. The Minister released the Mid Term Development Plan Bi-Annual Progress Report for the period April to September 2025. The M-T-D-P is government's 5-year strategic plan that outlines goals of the current administration. Ramokgopa says the high levels of poverty are being compounded by slow growth and global economic pressures. She says social protection continues to play a critical stabilising role for vulnerable households.
