Learning to “green lane” with my Honda NX500. Soudley to Ruspidge, Ruspidge to Littledean, Littledean to Blaize Bailey and back. A new friend is made! A dear friend of mine dropped me a message recently, saying that after watching some of my green lane videos her partner had developed an itch to go off road and bought himself a KTM. I was quick to invite him out, and the foundations of a great friendship have been made. Mark is a drag race champ, and hasn’t ever been off road so was understandably a little apprehensive so we decided Soudley was a great starting point for off road - and he only went and out rode the lot of us! We met for coffee, and got on our way over to Soudley. A little light drizzle, but previous few days had been very wet meaning the ground was extra slick. We had great fun, speeding up through our first lane, and half way along our second lane went through a nice big mud puddle which caused a concern for us all and Marks KTM! Although, luckily all was ok and we rode on to our third lane - where I slid out and found myself horizontal (again). This was the start of a long uphill struggle which sadly won, I couldn’t get my big heavy NX up that muddy hill - traction control off, knobbly tyres, and determination just wasn’t enough and saw me defeated. Gary took on the muddy ascent with his CRF250 Rally, also to find himself bogging out and sliding back down - try as he might. It was just to muddy! Then Mark, with no off road experience wanted to have his go … and crawled through the mud on his KTM like it was a dry tarmac flat leaving us all in awe! By this point, having seen myself and Gary fail - French decided against even bringing his Royal Enfield to the base of the climb and the 3 of us turned around to take an alternative route to continue the trail. A great day was had, and a great recap of the day enjoyed over coffee at the Heritage Centre.
