Bundy is an adult male Grey-Headed Flying-Fox who managed to find himself slightly inconveniently in a stormwater drain, from which he was unable to escape. I don't know what's happened to him - his claws are roughly blunted, which is indicative that he's either skidded across a road or the canal in a crash landing. He has grazed his chin (like he's skidded on concrete or road surface), which looks several days old, and he's rubbed some fur off his chest. Whatever originally happened with him, he was unable to escape the canal area in his state, and if a passing young person hadn't noticed and reported him he would have died there, hanging onto a seepage hole in the wall of the canal. (thanks Angus for noticing him). The rescue was a little tricky because I was unaware that he was actually in the canal (the call wasn't clear on this), so I got there and found I needed a second person and a ladder or 2. The mileage for the 2 round trips was just over 60 kms in Saturday afternoon traffic. It took hours. Bundy (from Bundara Rd) was concussed, not feeling quite himself, and has spent a couple of days recovering from his misadventure. He's not quite out of the woods yet, but he is doing better than I expected. He's with another carer now.
