Ben Lui (Beinn Laoigh) represents perhaps the most iconic mountain in the southern Highlands of Scotland, rising to an impressive height of 1130 m (Munro no. 28). The eastern face of the mountain comprises an impressive mélange of remote corries, wild rugged terrain, precipitous cliffs and rocky ridges, holding huge banks of winter snow into early summer. The best way to climb this spectacular mountain is undoubtedly from the east through Glen Cononish. After a long walk through the glen along an easy track, past the gold mine paraphernalia, a steep pathed ascent takes you into Ben Lui's wild eastern corrie. From here, two ridges offer potential routes to the summit. The ridge to the right offers the easiest route, while the ridge to the left offers a more technically challenging ascent involving some fairly exposed scrambling. We opted for the latter for the ascent and the former for the descent. Beinn a' Chleibh represents an easy and comparatively uninteresting addition from Ben Lui.
