Various of Clase leaving court STORYLINE: Two Cleveland Guardians players accused of colluding with sports bettors to rig bets appeared in Brooklyn federal court on Wednesday. Pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz arrived at the court shortly before 11am. Clase and Ortiz entered not guilty pleas to a rewritten indictment during the hearing. No new charges were in the superseding indictment that was unsealed on Friday as prosecutors charged a third individual in a criminal complaint with conspiring with the pitchers to bet on pitches early last season. That person also pleaded not guilty on Wednesday. The pitchers were charged in November with accepting several thousand dollars in payoffs to help two gamblers from their native Dominican Republic win over $460,000 on in-game prop bets on the speed and outcome of certain pitches. Clase, the Guardians’ former closer, and Ortiz, a starter, have been on non-disciplinary paid leave since July.
