For decades, Lowndes County, Alabama was majority Black — yet not a single Black resident was allowed to vote. Poll taxes, literacy tests, and intimidation kept power locked in white hands. After the Voting Rights Act, Black residents organized anyway. They registered voters. They built their own political party. And they chose a symbol strong enough to scare the system that had oppressed them — the Black Panther. Lowndes County wasn’t just fighting for ballots. They were fighting for control over schools, land, law enforcement, and survival. This video is about what happens when people who were shut out decide to take power instead of asking for it. History didn’t start in Oakland. It started right here in rural Alabama. #LowndesCounty #VotingRights #BlackHistory #CivilRights #HiddenHistory #BlackPower #shorts
