This talk explores how building knowledge travels—across continents, generations, and networks of people—illustrating that architecture evolves not from a single origin but through continuous exchange. It reflects on the role of the architect as a medium in this larger game, weaving ideas into local contexts without claiming ownership. The first strand of this story is the shallow dome, seen in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, where masons called them “Arbi domes.” The second strand is the thatching technique, inspired by Indonesian alang-alang grass panels. The village of Purba Sridharpur has widely adopted bamboo–thatch roofs with mud walls, innovating locally by reinforcing walls with sari fabric to prevent cracking. Finally, ferrocement is included as a third, smaller thread, which has informed certain structural experiments and floor slab designs.
