A Personal Tribute to Alfred Tobler - 9.11.1934 to 23.2.2026 Alfred Tobler was a man of extraordinary character. He did not live for himself. He did not seek personal advantage, demand recognition, or speak loudly about himself. Yet it was precisely in this way that he left a deep and lasting impact. Despite his great love for Rwanda, he never neglected his love for Lucie and for his children. What distinguished him was his quiet strength: care, love, inner peace, and discipline. He faithfully did what God had entrusted to him. He remained at his post even when things were difficult. He kept going where others might have given up. He carried responsibility, served people, helped build, encouraged, brought order, shared burdens, and remained dependable. Despite the scale of the projects he led, no orphan, widow, or sick person asking for help was unimportant to him. He handled the funds entrusted to him by many donors with responsibility, compassion, and love. Alfred Tobler also experienced great hardship: loss, disappointment, betrayal, injustice, and times of deep distress. But none of this made him bitter. He remained steadfast in faith, in service, and in devotion to God. His legacy is not only found in what he did, but in how he lived: faithful, humble, steadfast, and full of love. He showed what a life can look like when it is anchored in trust in God. Next to Jesus and his family, his greatest love was the beautiful land of Rwanda and its people, a country he had loved from the very first day he set foot there. On Tuesday, February 17, after a long and busy day, he sat down on the sofa. Lucie began reading something to him when she noticed that he seemed absent and that something was wrong. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital in St. Gallen, and although everything was done quickly and in good time, the damage proved irreversible. As a family, the remaining days of the week were spent taking time to say goodbye, to weep, and also to praise God. Alfred was lovingly cared for by the doctors and medical staff, and the family, too, received much support and compassionate guidance. On Monday morning at 10:00 a.m., the time had come for him to move to his heavenly home. "To die is gain." Alfred Tobler leaves behind a legacy that has not only touched his family, but has also impacted and helped save thousands of lives. #jesus #rwanda #legacy #christ
