Demonstration of combining collage material with printing on the Gelli Plate. I began by discussing the materials and tools needed to created prints with embedded collage materials (Chine' Colle'). I drew a cup and a leaf on a file folder. I used these shapes as templates to cut out multiple shapes from a stack of selected collage papers. Next, I arranged a cup and a leaf face down on the Gelli Plate. I rolled an even coat of a neutral Naples Yellow colored paint on top of the Gelli plate and collage papers. I laid a piece of paper on top of my Gelli plate to pull a print. The paint will act as a glue to transfer the collage paper. Credit goes to Carolyn Hassard for showing this direct method of transferring collage material from the Gelli Plate. Check out her excellent video "How to Make Collaged Gelli Plate Prints On the Plate" • How To Make Collaged Gelli Plate Prin... She goes into greater depth than I do about the possibilities of transferring collage material from the Gelli Plate in such a playful low key manner.
