POMBAL é uma cidade e sede de concelho, do distrito de Leiria, na Região do Centro de Portugal. A Ordem dos Templários marcou a presença na região com a construção do Castelo de Pombal em 1147, no morro de Santo Amaro. O Foral de Pombal foi concedido em 1174 e renovado dois anos mais tarde, em 1176. Em 1519, o rei D. Manuel I ordenou a recuperação do castelo que veio a ser a residência do alcaide-mor da vila, o Conde de Castelo-Melhor. No período entre 1777 e 1782 este concelho foi residência do Marquês de Pombal, que mandou construir a cadeia, o celeiro na Praça Velha e a real Fábrica de Chapéus na Quinta da Gramela.
