How did a game designed for an XBOX 360 in 2014 with better graphics than 99% of modern games and is somehow simultaneously: a metroidvania, linear open world horror game. This sounds impossible, yet somehow it exists. Today, I'm looking at the incredible and enigmatic game design of alien isolation, from its genius game design to terrible blunders. I'll compare it to other genius horror games like amnesia the bunker and even some unexpectedly similar games like hollow knight. I've been designing games and making devlogs/game dev challenge videos for many years now and will be analysing the absolutely stupid human ai, the genius alien AI, the graphics with their bespoke rendering pipeline, the motion tracker's genius game design and so, so much more. The game is a AAA release based on the horror film series 'Alien' and was an attempt to push the horror genre beyond where it has ever been.
