It's a windy winter morning at Tambdi Surla in eastern Goa, India. The place is known for the oldest temple in Goa, which is believed to have been built in the 12th or 13th century. It's a special temple, and you will notice that when you see it up close. The temple was cut out from a single rock, which was believed to have been brought down from the Western Ghats (a mountain plateau range located in western India). Ironically, researchers, archeologists and historians don't seem to be on the same page about this temple. Some claim it to be older, some say it was carved out of basalt and others say it's soapstone. The temple is dedicated to Shiva, who's also known as Mahadev (Maha means great in Sanskrit, and dev comes from deva, which means divinity/god). The temple is still actively worshiped by Hindus. The inner room of the temple with the lingam can only be visited by the Hindu community, and we were not allowed to film in the temple, but I think you can still see it really well from the outside (it's not that big). The center has a headless bull, which is Shivas companion animal. The ceiling is decorated with the holy lotus flower, and you can see the sign of the cobra. There are of course many more details. The temple may have been built by the Kadamba or the Yadava Kings. To be honest, I think there is a lot we don't know about this temple, it's the great mystery of the Goan jungle. #india #60fps #4k 🙋 Did you spot something special?
