Presented By: Joseph Almeida, New Jersey Institute of Technology Description: Research into the behavior of high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composites reinforced with mild steel (R/HPFRCCs) has indicated a lower potential for collapse in comparison to traditional reinforced concrete structures. Although R/HPFRCC structures appear promising, experimental data on the influence of axial loads is limited. Further, many of the prior numerical investigations using spring hinge models that have been limited by the lack of calibrated beam-column parameters (e.g., plastic hinge length). Therefore, this research aims to investigate the effects of varying material properties and reinforcement ratios on beam-column elements across a range of axial load ratios. High-fidelity numerical models accounting for the material nonlinearities (e.g., bond-slip, stress-strain) are used to capture component responses while allowing for a more comprehensive investigation. Outcomes from this numerical study will provide greater insight into the behavior of R/HPFRCC columns as well as establish a database for calibration of various beam-column expressions.
