Scenes of relief and emotion unfold in Nigeria’s North-East as 705 refugees finally return home after more than a decade in exile. Repatriated from Cameroon’s Minawao Refugee Camp to Banki in Bama Local Government Area, the returnees—representing 85 households—were displaced by years of insurgency that tore families from their communities. This report captures the significance of the homecoming, the role of the Borno State Government and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, and the food and therapeutic support now being provided to vulnerable women and children. With insights from News Central correspondent Umaru Kirawa, who has been tracking the operation closely, we examine how the exercise was carried out and what the future holds for those rebuilding their lives.
