forgottenbeauty.wixsite.com/abandoned Molly Stark Sanatorium is a 1929 tuberculosis hospital in north eastern Ohio. At the time the leading treatment for TB was nothing more than sunlight and fresh air; a philosophy that the buildings architecture clearly echoes with its Spanish Revival style four-story facility featuring large windows, porticos, balconies and rooftop verandas surrounded by pastoral settings. During its operation the sickest patients were sent to the top floor and slowly moved down floors as their health improved. Eventually antibiotic treatment for TB was developed and the need for the sanatorium was no more. Thus, in 1956, Molly Stark Sanatorium became Molly Stark Hospital and began admitting non-TB patients. For the next four decades patients numbers would continue to decline and the facilities would continue to age until finally the hospital was forced to close. Later in 2009, the Stark County bought the property and developed a park on it. Thankfully for me, they left the hospital standing pending possible environmental clean-up in the future. Creating videos is a new endeavor for me, my passion and skills lie primarily in photography: please visit my website (forgottenbeauty.wixsite.com/abandoned) for full albums of photos from these explorations and many more from all over the eastern United States.
