YEV is a weekly EV Podcast where we chat all things EV in a balanced way. As some will know, I had already started the Chargeheads Live podcast, Thursday's at 8pm, and as I was looking for a way of improving content, I thought this could be a great way of producing a balanced, interesting and worthwhile podcast with a focus on electric cars. THE CAST: Alex Grant is a life-long car enthusiast turned award winning motoring and tech journalist, specialising in fleets, electric vehicles, automation and modified / classic cars. Formerly of MAX POWER, and subsequently editor of Fleet World magazine he's written about electrificationsince 2011 and launched EV Fleet World as editor. Now freelance, he's copywriting for a range of B2B clients, is a judge for the UK Car of the Year Awards and still writes monthly for Performance VW magazine... a mix that gives him a broad overview of the automotive industry. Kevin Booker has been driving EV's since 2015. His first EV was a Renault Zoe and has worked in the industry for 20 years. Holder of four EV Guiness World records from John O Groats to Lands End and Longest distance to a single charge in an electric van. Taken part in the Greenfleet EV Rally. Entered a number of Layer Marney cup efficiency rallies and many other efficiency challenges. Tim Aylen, thats me, is a 17 year motor trade professional in multiple brands, with 8 years used car buying experience which also includes EV. Buying in the last couple of years in the motortrade up to 1,000 cars a year to retail at main dealers. The last year and a half he has been specialising in EV solutions, specifically the DC charging market, in sales and events. My journey started with my EV conversions project which took me on a captivating exploration, visiting EV conversion garages to uncover the perfect candidate for transformation. Amidst the array of options, I found myself drawn to the lesser-known gem, the TVR Tasmin 350i, affectionately known as the Wedge (#tvrwedgee). After going with my gut, I decided to purchase a cheap and broken TVR I found and start this EV conversion marathon. With my TVR Griffith 500 already igniting my passion for untamed, adrenaline-fueled rides without driver aids, the choice to electrify a TVR was a natural progression. My 2nd project was electrifying a 1970's BSA Aerial 3 Tricycle Scooter into a fun short range deathtrap, that is #SpecialTrikee project! Partnering with my friend Vinny now Zoe, we've injected new life into this classic ride, creating an electrifying experience like no other. Perfect for zipping around town on local jaunts, it's an absolute blast! Even Mrs. Chargehead affectionately dubs it my 'special scooter' – a charming nod to its origins as a humble 50cc two-stroke, now boasting a dynamic "250-watt" motor. Introducing our latest endeavor: Rustee #RusteeTesla – the ultimate Tesla Model 3 Long Range upgrade project! Our mission? To elevate its aesthetics, enhance handling, and supercharge performance, all while retaining its unrivaled daily mileage and efficiency. How? By meticulously integrating recycled parts where possible and free parts from sponsors, making it better, but greener too.
