Fish Creek: A Community in Action

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) started working in Fish Creek in northeastern Indiana more than 30 years ago to protect threatened mussel species, and recent mussel surveys indicate an increase in mussel diversity. From the very beginning, TNC knew that if it wanted to improve the water quality in Fish Creek to help the mussels, it had to find ways to work with the community. Thanks to the community’s direct involvement, Fish Creek is proof that Indiana can have high-quality streams in working landscapes.
